The weekend of Vinny's birthday we decided to take a weekend vacation. We joined some god friends and rented a cabin in McCall. It was the winter carnival and we would have taken any excuse to get out of town for a while. These are the same friends we went to the Oregon coast with and we had a great time on that trip, so when it was suggested to rent a cabin we immediately said yes. Our kids get a long really well and it truly is a relaxing vacation when we are with them.
Unfortunately the weather didn't get the message that we wanted to go to the carnival. It was very rainy and windy. So this meant that all the snow sculptures were melted and there wasn't much to see as far as the festival goes.
We did get a small break in the weather and got to go watch some fireworks. It was a pretty good show. We forgot however to tell our kiddos that it would be loud. So when it started penny cuddled into dad's shoulder and wouldn't look up and Scotty held onto my leg and buried his face into it. I was able to get him to look the last minute or so. Vinny was lounging in his stroller and loved the whole show. He pointed and ooohed and awwwed. Afterward Scotty kept saying how much he liked the fireworks but they went "BOOM"! Ever since we got back from that trip he keeps asking for fireworks and if he sees them on TV he screams "Fireworks in a really high soprano voice. So I guess overall it was a good experience for him- even if he missed most of the show :)

The boys did get a small chance when it was sunny to try ice fishing, unfortunately that didn't go very well either. James actually had his brand new 4 day old phone fall into a hole. Somehow he was able to reach in and grab it before it sank to the bottom. Even with all this non-sense happening, we were able to enjoy being with each other, watch a few movies and have a good time.
